AWCO North America (AWCO-NA) was established as the diaspora chapter after over 60 years of AWCO’s existence. The chapter was founded under the visionary leadership of our fallen hero, Late Inyom Ezinne Julie Udunma Lekwuwa, after receiving several prompts from members in the diaspora. Her commitment laid the groundwork for AWCO to take root in North America.
Having AWCO in North America is an opportunity to extend our philanthropic and humanitarian work - girl-child empowerment, advocacy, mentorship, education and more as the challenges facing the girl-child still remain and have taken a new dimension.
February 20, 2021 was the first meeting officially declaring AWCO-NA open for business in North America as a chapter. These were members present at the first general meeting in North America: Late Julie Udunma Lekwauwa, Late Chief Mrs. Mercy Udeochu, Ego Ndukwe, Elder Nnenna Nduka, Nina Okali, Nma Mgbo Nkpa, Madam Ugo James Ume, Madam Uloma Otisi, Pastor Effiem Otah, Late Oduenyi Kalu, Uche Emeson, Ifeoma Elezuo, Ogazioma Igbani, Chinyere Anam Etemfiok, Madam Victoria Udensi, Dorothy Iroegbu.
INAUGURAL CHARGE - FEBRUARY 27, 2023
The Inaugural Charge meeting was held on February 27, 2023 via Zoom with the three leaders present: Outgoing General President, Inyom Ezinne Julie Lekwuwa, Incoming President, Elder Georgina Mma Agbaha, and Past General President, Elder Nnenna Nduka. The meeting was hosted by Inyom Ego Ndukwe from Nigeria and chaired by the National AWCO President, Late Inyom Ezinne Julie Lekwuwa.
On that eventful day, Late Inyom Ezinne Julie charged every member that _“AWCO is ONE BODY with many parts, working together like the body of Christ” - meaning every member must work to move the organization forward. Elder Nnenna Nduka also fortified us with words of wisdom in preparation of the journey ahead- “ikebe-akpa”.
During other matters, Inyom Ego read out the names of AWCO-NA Bylaw Committee members and stated the committee will meet to draft a Bylaw using the already existing AWCO constitution.The Bylaw committee was established to produce a working document for AWCO-NA being a different environment. The committee members were: Inyom Ego as Chair, Elder Nina Okali, Inyom Uche Emeson, and Mrs. Ogazioma Igbani, and Madam Arit Eke-Ude.

In all, AWCO-NA has come to stay and will continue to grow into a greater organization in North America supporting womanhood and protecting the girl-child, being the foundational mission of AWCO.
